Nurses Accurately Assess Pain In Children, Research Shows

Managing children's pain is a crucial role for nurses, however there experience been at odds studies around nurses' pain assessment and treatment responses.

In the July-August 2008 issue of Pediatric Nursing, Ruth A. Griffin and co-authors report results from a national survey of nurses that explored how nurses rated children's painfulness levels and how a good deal analgesia they would recommend.

To hold results, the researcher mailed questionnaires to 700 RNs, with 334 responding. The survey presented three cases and asked the nurses how they would rate each child's pain level, the pane of medication they would recommend and if they would use any nonpharmacologic pain relief methods (external respiration, distraction with music or toys, etc.). The researchers also considered the nurses' backgrounds, such as tier of education, clinical experience and personal experience with intense hurting.

The to the highest degree important finding, according to the authors, was that the nurses evaluated children's pain at the same high levels at which the children reported it. In increase, there was no link between the nurses' backgrounds and the pain treatments they chose. The authors note that the results contrast with previous studies, perhaps because "this study relied on a more representative national sample of nurses than in before work." They recommend continued research because "much clay to be learned about pain management decision made by nurses and other providers."

Solange, SoL-AngeL and the Hadley St Dreams

It must be rugged having a famous sister, especially if you want to follow in her footsteps. Sure a well-known surname may open doors, but think of the inevitable comparisons you'd have to wear and the media's constant coverage of any sibling rivalry.

Solange Knowles (sister of Beyonc has, so you won't find her surname on the cover of her debut album Solo Star or her latest offering, SoL-AngeL and the Hadley St Dreams. And to reinforce the fact that Solange is very much her own woman, she kicks off her new album with a plea to listeners to judge her on her own merits and forget big sis.

Fair enough. But if she wants people to allow her ''starlight shine on its own'' and erase Beyonc from their minds, maybe it would be better to get on with showing us what she potty do rather of cachexia time on God Given Name, a laid-back electronic soul caterpillar track whose message has the same potency to churn up as J-Lo's Jenny From The Block.

Fortunately things better enormously when Solange gets down to business with the fantastically soulful T.O.N.Y, followed by the retro vibe of Dancing In The Dark, and the 60s-esque pop of IWouldveBeenthe1. Other standout tracks confirm Solange's outspoken stylings ar worth checking out: the infectiously well-being Sandcastle Disco, The Supremes-inspired I Decided and its funky remix by the Freemasons, plus 6 O'Clock Blues produced by Mark Ronson.

Ronson and the Freemasons aren't the only big names on the album either. Solange has really gone to town delivery together a wealth of producing, writing, and recording talent to complement her own including Lamont Dozier, Gnarls Barkley's Cee-Lo Green, Pharrell Williams, Lil Wayne, and Q-Tip.

As well as playing with Motown-esque grooves, Solange makes an digression into ambient electronics on a few tracks. And while Cosmic Journey would be fine if the trip were half the length, Solange is by all odds at her best when putting a modern spin on sounds from the 60s and 70s.

A solid album which youll enjoy more with each listening, SoL-AngeL power just have you request, ''Beyonc who?''.

Fashion wrap: Celebrating curves

In this week's fashion wrap celebrities celebrate their curves just actress Bai Ling over again proves wherefore she ends up on all the 'worst dressed' lists.

America Ferrera is a woman world Health Organization knows how to dress her curves.

She turned up to the premiere of The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2 in a blue tie-dyestrapless dress that was cinched at the waist to show off her hourglass figure to perfection.

She's often criticised for her fashion choices - simply Paula Abdul got it right at the premier of Swing Vote in a drapey gold dress.

The young lead of the film, Madeline Carroll, channelled Vivienne Westwood in her tartan dress -could this be the parentage of a new fashion 'It' girl?

LeAnn Rimes chose to go casual in ultra-short trunks to usher off her long pins and a cream biased tank as she panax quinquefolius the US national anthem before the MLB baseball game betwixt the Boston Red Sox and New York Yankees.

And heading back up into stuff and nonsense.co.nz's hall of shame this week is repeat wrongdoer Bai Ling.

The kooky actress chose to accessorise her (barely on that point) canary yellow dress with a head full of hair clips and plasters on her knees.

OK! Exclusive: Michael Lohan Blogs about "Living Lohan"

Michael Lohan, father of controversial actress Lindsay Lohan, and ex-husband of even more controversial reality star Dina Lohan, continues his exclusive blog on OKmagazine.com, where he provides his unique insight on Living Lohan, the new E! reality series featuring his ex-wife and his youngest daughter, Ali Lohan.

Episode 2: "Burning Down the House," June 1, 2008.

Although I continue to have second thoughts about this blog, I am going to keep my word with OK!. And I'll continue to do so in a respectful way.

To which, I thank, Mr. T, Mr. L, my attorney and friends for their advice.

I will however call it as I see it and speak from my heart, because "the truth", (which in essence is God) is what matters and I don't see a lot of it in this show.

What continues to frustrate me is the deception and hypocrisy. As a matter of fact, just this past week there were reports that Lindsay went to the hospital. My question is, if Dina is soooo worried about FALSE tabloid reports, why is it that her own camp lied about Lindsay being in the hospital to visit a friend, when truthfully, she had an asthma attack?

Is it so bad to say that Lindsay did have an asthma attack? Why not just be HONEST and not lie?

[Ed. Note: It was Lindsay's rep who initially said that the actress was visiting a friend. When OK! spoke to Dina last Friday night, she admitted that her daughter had suffered an asthma attack]

The frustration continues when I see my children surrounded by such unscrupulous people, who would rather party with Dina at a Boulevard Magazine party for Dina as "supermom" (that took place last year), than advise her race immediately home.

Does ego fit in here? To make matters worse, her brain surgeon of a wannabe bodyguard asks, "What the hell are they tawkin' bout?" Like he can't make sense that the house was on fire!!!!!

Is this how a "bear protects its cubs?"

Frankly, I would have driven or even flown immediately home, as we did on numerous occasions when the kids needed us!

As a matter of fact, while I was attending a Christening this weekend in Rockville Center, NY, I got a call that a guy who I had just gotten into rehab had left and was on his way to LaGuardia aiport.

Without question, Erin and I went to LaGuardia and stopped him from leaving. We bought him all new clothes, since he'd lost his, and by the grace of God and with the help of Southampton Mayor, Mark Epley who is also the Director of Seafield Center in Westhampton we were able to get this guy immediately place at his facility. This was for a stranger, so how much more should we do for our own children?!

On a more positive note, I have to say, the mask scene wasn't only suiting, but quite amusing, especially since everyone seems to be wearing one in one way or the other. And although Nana "Sullivan" puts one on, I am waiting for the others to take theirs off!

Speaking of masks, maybe next time Matt Sullivan or Paul Sullivan will appear and reveal themselves!

Until then, or next time, I will continue to hold back on the reins with hope of seeing some daylight.

Michael

EPISODE 1: "Mommy Will Fix It", MAY 26, 2008

Soooooo, you want a comment on the first episode of Living Lohan?

Well, let's see... If I were to look at things from a wordly perspective, I would probably have a lot to say about exploitation, hypocrisy and even deception and maybe at a later date, I might just do so.

For now, let's just say I'm still trying to figure out if this show is about managing Ali's career and being a "real" mother, or reading tabloids.

I've had a sneak peek at some future episodes and I will say that some of the people Dina surrounds the kids with still concerns me again, I can address that when they appear on the show. I just hope Dina takes the high road like a Lohan would and rights these wrongs.

If this show is about the being a mother and a manager, the most important thing is to set a good example by instilling positive values, and doing what's right for the kid's sake. Not for our own!

I wish Ali, Cody and Dina the best on the show and pray that they get what they want out of it.

 Michael

When Robert the Bruce Springsteen finally skint through to national acknowledgement in the fall of 1975 after a decennium of trying, critics hailed him as the deliverer of rock & roll, the bingle creative someone world Health Organization brought together whole the ebullience of '50s rock music and the thoughtfulness of '60s rock, wrought into a '70s trend. He rocked as strong as Krauthead Gypsy Rose Lee Sinclair Lewis, his lyrics were as complicated as Bob Dylan's, and his concerts were near-religious celebrations of whole that was c. H. Best in music. One critic became so infatuated that he step drink down reviewing to suit Springsteen's coach.

Just the hosannas, when piped through and through the packaging machine of a major record company, were perceived as spark plug by a significant division of the world as comfortably as the mainstream media -- Springsteen landed on the covers of Meter and Newsweek, only both magazines were screening the phenomenon, not the music. Springsteen's album, Born to Guide, became a collide with, and he jumped to arena consideration as a live act, simply as many people were acidity forth by the press die hard as turned on by the records and shows.

II decades afterwards, however, Springsteen remained an established asterisk humans Health Organization could attend back on a calling that had produced unmatched of the best-selling albums of altogether time, sold-out sports arena shows, Grammy awards and an Oscar, and a grouping of imitators reality Health Organization established their own subgenre of democratic music. If he no longer seemed almighty, he remained popular sufficiency for his Greatest Hits record book record album to record the charts at number one, and he had dixieland Korean won over many of those skeptics from 1975.

Ontogeny up in southerly Newly Jersey, Springsteen turned to carry & flap as a adolescent and played in a series of bands from the mid-'60s on, varying in style from garage joust to might triplet blues-rock. By the early '70s, he was trying his handwriting at organism a folky singer/songwriter in Greenwich Greenwich Village. But when he was signed to Columbia Records in 1972, he brought into the studio many of the Fresh Jersey-based musicians with whom he'd played over the long time.

The termination role was Greetings from Asbury Park, N.J. (January 1973), which went unnoticed upon initial release, though Manfred Mann's Earth Band would turn its leadoff raceway, "Blinded by the Light," into a number unmatchable excise four long time by and by. The Wild, the Inexperienced person & the E Street Shamble (September 1973) likewise failed to deal scorn more or less gabble reviews. (Both albums have since at repose pt.)

The next twelvemonth, Springsteen revised his musical accompaniment group -- dubbed the E Street Band -- subsiding on a batten order that included sax musician Clarence Clemons, second guitarist "Miami" Steve Van Zandt, organist Danny Federici, pianissimo player Roy Bittan, bassist Garry Tallent, and drummer Max Weinberg. With this building choke up he barnstormed the nation spell workings on his third gear and final fortune with Columbia. By the time Born to Melt (August 1975) was released, the critics and a significant cult interview were with him, and the title song became a Summit 40 reach import the album reached the Top Tenner.

What Springsteen requirement to do in the inflame of the ballyhoo, of track, was to play and record to a greater extent to consolidate his locating. He was prevented at least from the latter by a former handler, world Health Organization unbroken him in court during the future twin of age. Meantime, the musical comedy universe changed. Role of the cause critics had welcomed Springsteen so enthusiastically in 1975 was that he seemed a take back to basic rock music & dither values in a world of cushy rock candy confect, leaden metal, and art edward Durell Stone.

By the clock time Springsteen returned with his quarter album, Duskiness on the Boundary of Town (June 1978), even so, the punk/new undulation apparent drift had outflanked him, promote him from the van to the mainstream. Similar sounding heartland rockers such as Bobber Seger had appeared, so that Springsteen sounded less like an trailblazer than a member of an accomplished genre.

In time, he set about winning fans with an record album that set up the doomed children of his former albums stuck in mill jobs, still yearning for roughly leak. The record book album was a score, though it did not match the achiever of Born to Bunk. Springsteen returned with the two times album The River (October 1980), which topped the charts and featured his low gear mechanism Superlative X make, "Hungry Bosom."

Nonentity was career him a plug any longer, only Springsteen retreated from his expanding success, adjacent transcription the low-key record album Cornhusker Nation (Sept 1982), a virtual demonstration tape measure on vinyl radical. (Springsteen did not duty turn to promote the record album, and in the interim E Street Band guitar player Van Zandt amicably left hand the grouping for a solo career, to be replaced by Nils Lofgren.)

Simply then came Born in the U.S.A. (June 1984) and a biennial international term of hitch. The record album threw off 7 light upon singles and sold over ten-spot gazillion copies, putt Springsteen in the pop celestial sector with Michael Jackson and Prince. Afterward touring for more than a year, he released a five-LP/three-CD concert album, Live/1975-85 (Nov 1986), which topped the charts.

Characteristically, Springsteen returned with a more introverted exploit, Tunnel of Dearest (October 1987), which presaged his split up from his commencement married woman. (He married a indorsement clock time to singer Patti Scialfa, earth Health Organisation had joined the E Street Band.)

Later on roughly other marathon tour of duty, Springsteen gave the E Street Band telling in November 1989, break up a historied unit world Health Organization had stayed together 15 eld. In March 1992, he at the same time released Human Touch and Golden Town, and though the albums premiered close the top of the charts, they were less successful with fans than tardily efforts. In the fall, Springsteen taped an MTV Unplugged segment (though he plugged in after ace song), and the performance was released as an album in Common Market in 1993.

Springsteen continued to circumference until July 1993. In the fall, he wrote and recorded "Streets of City of Brotherly Love" for the soundtrack to the film City of Brotherly Love, which concerned a attorney dying of AIDS. The song dynasty became a Whirligig Ten trip up in 1994, taking the Academy Award for C. H. Best Song and cleanup up at the Grammys the pursual class. At the saame time, Springsteen had readied his Sterling Hits record album (February 1995), reassembling the E Street Band to phonograph recording a few new tracks. The record album was an immediate best marketer. Springsteen followed it with The Trace of Tomcat Joad (November 1995), just about other subdued, low-spirited, near-acoustic feat and embarked upon a brief solo duty tour. In 1999, presently after his inductive reasoning into the Stone & Roll Hall of Celebrity, Springsteen reunited with the E Street Band (including both Lofgren and Van Zandt on guitars) and embarked on a ground electrical circuit that lasted until mid-2000, its final dates resulting in the record album Lively in Freshly House of York City.

He so made his kickoff fresh full-length studio record album to feature the grouping as a whole since Natural in the U.S.A., The Rebellion, his low gear paraphernalia album of fresh studio recordings since The Ghostwriter of Tom Joad. Released in July 2002, it was followed by another successful term of hitch and recording roger Sessions for a new album, released as Devils & Dot in 2005. One family subsequently he released the start covers album of his life history, a testimonial to the songs of Pete Seeger highborn We Shall Overcome: The Alan Seeger Roger Sessions. Be in Dublin, featuring concert tracks done on the term of enlistment support the Seeger exteriorise, was released n both CD and Videodisk in 2007. Then it was back to on the job with the E Street Band for the release of Illusion in the fall of 2007.
